The aimof this paper was to promote the use ofmusical interventionswith clientswith learning disabilities.Musical interventionswith this group of clientswere found to be effective in reducing self-injurious behaviour, aggression and other behaviour, which challenge the service providers.Music was also found to have the potential to improve the communication skills of clients and tomaintain their psychologicalwell being. A reviewof the literature shows thatmusic, though not widely used in the f|eld of learning disabilities, can be an effectivemediumthroughwhich the quality of life of clients can be enhanced. r 2002 Elsevier Science Ltd.
